DFYC supports socially excluded children and young people from Bermondsey and its neighbouring areas, helping them to fulfil their potential through a structured programme of sport, educational, artistic and recreational activities.
DFYC provide opportunities to young people otherwise unattainable. Regular outward bound trips across the country including a 100 mile Canoe Test, a Summer Camp, Sailing Trip and residential trips to Hindleap Warren Outdoor Pursuits Centre as well as day trips.
DFYC have a diverse membership, inclusive of members with disabilities, learning difficulties and those that maybe socially excluded.
DFYC offer a range of programmes to appeal to all personalities. The annual sailing trips and Canoe Test along with the Summer Camp and weekend trips to Hindleap Warren Outdoor Activity Centre work effectively to broaden the outlook of their young people with notable increases in their confidence levels and self-esteem, tolerance of others and teamwork abilities.
Christine Annis leads the team at DFYC and has worked at the club for 31 years. She became aware of the Youth Club due to her 2 sons attending the club as members. She then became involved with the Youth Club, starting as a volunteer youth worker then moved her way up from Assistant Club Leader to Centre Manager. Christine is a pillar of the community as her family have always lived in Bermondsey and she knows the residents and the area like the back of her hand.
